I'm having a problem with mine. It's an XplorerFX professional. The cart will not boot any games while on, cheat's activated or otherwise. Also, the memory card portion of the cart must be dead as everytime I try to access it it locks up the system. Could this be a corrupt ROM?

That thing looks really old, perhaps it just kicked the bucket?

Hmm, well I think the compatibility warning was for 9001/slim PSone consoles as these did not feature the parallel I/O port required by xplorer to be plugged in.

I think I may just re-install its ROM, got nothing to lose eh? Cheers man

Some of the older PS1 grey consoles did not have a I/O either.

May i ask where in the hell did you manage to find one of them? and do you know if it allows backup play?

Ive been looking for almost a year and cannot find a cart to play backups. I have 2 of the Ps1's that have the I/O ports.

@CurbsidePharmacist I got it for a quid from a car boot sale if my memory serves me right, was just lying in a "Various accessories" box. Not sure if it played back-ups when it worked but it doesn't even execute official games now.

There was a device which was similar to the old gameshark cart's but was primarily designed for booting of copied games on unmodified systems. You would put an official game disc in and wait for the lazer to stop (So the lockout chip has the right code from the official game) then, just swap the official disc for a CD-R, click "Start game" and there you go, boots perfectly. These devices went under different names, the one I have is branded "PS Hacker". Here's an image if it helps :

Yeah, the later units of "Big" Playstation's (9001 and upwards) had the Parallel I/O port removed, although the pinout's were still on the board itself

The I used to use the Xplorer to play back-ups.... It wasn't a feature but if I remember rightly... If you booted your Original disc then went into the Xplorer's CD player it would stop the disc allowing you to swap in a backup. Although.... thinking about it now... it might have been the Xploder disc variant.... can't quite remember.

That "PSP Hacker" I have one of those, mine is called "PS MOD CART" you get a spring with then to attach to the plastic pin at the back right of the disc tray to allow you to open and close the psx without de-pressing the sensor.
