Hi guys,

I have a question about my ps2 fat. I took my system apart to clean it and now when i insert a DVD the disk spins maybe 1/4 of a turn then stopps then boots right to FreeMCboot , what would cause this problem as far as i know the Fat did not have sensors to disable the boot with the lid off.

I don't know much about the PS2 systems, but you say that it spins about 1/4 of a turn and stops, it sounds like there is something stopping it from continuing to spin. Make sure that you have everything back the way its supposed to be.

Ive cleaned about 4 or 5 of these things already and this is the first one that has done this. Everything worked fine i had the lid off and was watching it read disks, seems the track that the eye rides on seems to struggle and make a bit of noise while moving the eye back and forth on the track. So i cleaned the dust off the tracks and slightly loosen the screw that holds the laser down to the track and it stopped making that god awfull noise and then i moved the eyes tray back out of the way to get to the dust under the disk motor and when i turned it back on the eye repositioned itself like any other time then the motor gave a slight jerk to the disk and stopped , now each time i power up thats all it does.

I may just end up buying a new one tomorrow and use this one for parts.

Does the drive make any noise when the disc stops spinning? My 3DO had that problem one time

Nah it made this grinding noise before it stopped working like the dreamcast makes but louder, but i think the screw thing that leads the eye up and down the track is stripped and me fuggin around with it finished it off, it had problems reading when we were playing it .... i found another one for $30 and the parts from the one i broke can fix 2 more so its a gain in a way i guess. I was just the unlucky party to end up with it when it gave out.

i got 3 Fats

1 power buttons cable got tore
2 dont read disks anymore
3 works fine but no screws to assemble it

so ill get the power button and screws off the one i messed up and have 2 working fats, replace the one i broke and fix the one i been rigging to play.

So i bought a PS2 Fat today and noticed it had a network adapter, so i figured id open the deck up blast it with air. I get the screws for the network adapter open give it a wiggle and low and behold there is a 40GB Sony HDD installed. I was pretty happy about that so now i got 2 ps2's i can network together , plus i got the one that broke fixed and ready for pick up.

I am STOKED!!!

You can mod the console and ftp games to the hdd.
Then you can play them off your hdd and not have to worry about disc.
Thats pretty kick ass.

I don't believe you can ftp the the hdd.
If you can, I'd be interested in that setup.

I presently yank my hdd out, and take it to my pc.
Copy the gave to the hdd, and then re-insert it.

Works great.

If ftp is possible, I'd like to be made aware of it.

Thanks.

PS2 don't allow the FTP method.

On a Fat with a internal drive you can install (retail games) right to the HDD thru FreeMCboot with HDD advance for some reason it wont work with copied games or ESR patched games unless you have a mod chip.

Otherwise you can install it to the PC via HDD connections or get a handy SATA/IDE/2.5 to USB adapter with its own power supply and USB 2.0 games to it that way.
